First Time: Eyelash Extensions
In collaboration with New York Lash Spa. All opinions are my own.
A beauty treatment that I have been very curious about is: eyelash extensions. I have seen so many people get it done and the results amazed me. I have always been interested in how they will look on monolid eyes but for some reason, I have not gotten them done before. Over the summer in 2019, I was rushing to curl my eyelashes, which resulted in some lashes getting pulled out. I should have taken my time and done it carefully. It is only noticeable when my eyes are closed but nonetheless, it is not a cute look. I knew that I had to do something about this issue. So for the new year, I decided to try something new and get eyelash extensions for the first time at New York Lash Spa! They invited me to get a complimentary Natural Look set done, which includes 90 eyelash extensions per eye.
Their spa is located at 133 Grand Street, New York, NY 10013. The location is incredible because it is right by Soho and Little Italy. I love that little neon sign above their door. Remember to “treat yourself!”
I made an appointment for 11:00 AM and arrived early so that I have plenty of time to check in and take photos of the spa. Upon entering, I noticed that there was ambient music playing, which is very relaxing.
The waiting area had comfortable seats and refreshments such as water and wine. The spa has multiple private rooms so everyone is able to enjoy time alone and truly relax. They also provide other services such as microblading, massages, facial care, and full body waxing.
Immediately at 11:00 AM, I was greeted by Monika and she explained the different styles of curls and lengths that I can choose from. She asked me what look I want to achieve and I told her that I like the cat eye style (shorter eyelashes from the corner of the eye to longer eyelashes toward the end) with C curl (natural curl). If you are wondering what lashes they use, they use synthetic silk lashes for the extensions. She also noticed that some of my lashes were missing and I told her about the eyelash curler mishap, which is quite funny now. After the consultation, I lied down and she began working her magic!
Initially, I thought that I would have trouble keeping my eyes closed without twitching due to the bright light but after she put on the hydrogel eye pads, my eyes were closed and relaxed. She was very gentle and precise with her application techniques. I expected the process to take an hour and a half to two hours long but was pleasantly surprised that she completed the full set within 45 minutes! I did not have trouble opening my eyes because the lashes are so light weight. It does not feel like I have extensions on my eyes. She gave me a mirror to look at the results and it really blew my mind.
In the before photo (above), my eyelashes are not that visible and they naturally point downwards. In the after photo (below), my eyelashes are much more visible and curled. I have monolid eyelids and I love how these extensions look on my eyes. Long and curled lashes really do open up the eyes and make them appear more friendly and bright!
In this before photo (above), you can clearly see that my eyelashes are missing. In the after photo (below), my lashes are fluttery and much fuller. I also really love the tapered cat eye look. After the application, she explained that I should avoid waterproof makeup and oil-based removers. She also noted that I should not get my eyelashes wet with water for 24-48 hours in order for the lash adhesive to fully bond with my actual lashes.
Overall, I am very impressed with how Monika applied eyelash extensions on me and I would love to visit again in the future! I had a pleasant first time experience with getting my eyelashes done and I am curious as to how long they will keep up. Thank you once again, Monika and the New York Lash Spa team for welcoming me to the spa for complimentary eyelash extensions! Now, I cannot stop fluttering my eyelashes and staring at the mirror!
